Significant Developments at Dakhla Atlantic Port

In a recent visit to the Dakhla Atlantic Port, members of the Economic and Political Sections of the U.S. Embassy in Morocco expressed their admiration for this pivotal infrastructure project. The port is not only a key player in enhancing regional connectivity but also holds significant promise for boosting trade and investment opportunities. According to a statement from the American embassy shared on their X account, this visit is part of the U.S. Mission's ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations across Morocco, from Tangier to Dakhla.

The Dakhla Atlantic Port is viewed by the United States as a critical component of regional trade and economic advancement. Its strategic location is expected to provide landlocked countries in the Sahel region with vital access to international markets along the Atlantic. The U.S. government is actively encouraging investment in the Moroccan Sahara, identifying it as a burgeoning frontier for collaborations in sectors such as energy, technology, and infrastructure.

Investment Initiatives and Future Prospects

A notable example of U.S. commitment to the region is the substantial support for a green hydrogen initiative, with a grant of $5.7 million dedicated to a feasibility study for a $4.5 billion green ammonia production facility in Laayoune. In 2025, the Moroccan government selected ORNX to spearhead a large-scale project focused on green hydrogen and ammonia production in southern Morocco, aiming to deliver high-quality green ammonia to global markets through renewable energy generated on-site.

As the United States and Morocco commemorate nearly 250 years of diplomatic relations, both nations are poised to continue their collaboration, striving towards mutual goals of economic growth and prosperity. In a message to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Throne Day, U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Moroccan projects, particularly in strategic sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense, thereby enhancing the economic partnership between the two countries.
