Strengthening Strategic Partnerships in North Africa
Valenciaport recently made significant strides in enhancing its trade relationships with North Africa during its participation in the Logismed Casablanca international trade fair, which stands as the premier logistics and supply chain event in the region. Led by the President of the Port Authority of Valencia, Mar Chao, the delegation aimed to solidify Valenciaport's position as a pivotal trade gateway connecting Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean, while also reinforcing its commercial footprint in the Moroccan market.
Throughout the event, the delegation engaged in numerous institutional meetings and collaborative sessions with key players from Morocco's logistics and port sectors, all within the framework of the Spanish Pavilion organized by ICEX. This fair is a vital platform, annually attracting over 5,000 trade visitors, including government officials, logistics operators, and representatives from Morocco’s Ministry of Transport, facilitating the development of partnerships across the Maghreb region.
Significant Growth in Trade Volumes
Morocco has emerged as one of Valenciaport’s most crucial trading partners, with total trade volume reaching an impressive 2,090,864 tonnes in 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.81 percent. Notably, container traffic saw even more robust growth, with a total of 121,193 full TEUs exchanged between Valenciaport and Moroccan ports, reflecting a remarkable increase of 16.92% compared to the previous year. These statistics underscore the strategic importance of key ports such as Casablanca and Tangier Med within Valenciaport’s international logistics network.
The participation in Logismed aligns with the objectives set forth in Valenciaport’s 2035 Strategic Plan, which emphasizes sustainable development, innovation, enhanced connectivity, and the deepening of commercial ties with strategic markets throughout North Africa and the wider Mediterranean region.
