Successful Voluntary Return Operation for Sudanese Migrants
On Friday, a voluntary return operation was successfully organized for a total of 137 Sudanese migrants who were residing illegally in Morocco. This initiative took place at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca and was executed by Moroccan authorities in collaboration with the Sudanese Embassy in Morocco. This operation is part of Morocco's comprehensive immigration and asylum policy, which emphasizes a humanitarian approach that respects the rights and dignity of migrants, in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI.
This strategic framework not only seeks to regularize the status of tens of thousands of migrants but also provides opportunities for numerous individuals wishing to return to their home countries through organized voluntary repatriation processes. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Sudan's Ambassador to Morocco, Moudah Omer Haj Al-Tom Al-Badawi, praised this inaugural voluntary return journey for Sudanese migrants who wish to go back to contribute to the rebuilding and development of their homeland.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Sudanese government and herself, Al-Badawi thanked King Mohammed VI, as well as the Moroccan government and people, for the support and facilitation provided to ensure the success of this operation. She emphasized that such an initiative would not have materialized without the backing of the Moroccan authorities, who are committed to implementing King Mohammed VI's visionary strategy that fosters South-South cooperation and strengthens African partnerships.
Highlighting Morocco's migration experience, which is rooted in humanitarian values and principles of solidarity, the Sudanese diplomat noted that this approach serves as a model for African nations. Furthermore, she commended the welcoming conditions afforded to Sudanese citizens in Morocco, stating that they have consistently received dignified treatment and exemplary hospitality from both the Moroccan authorities and the populace, reflecting the deep historical, fraternal, and cultural ties between the two countries.
In a similar sentiment, Yusuf, a Sudanese migrant who benefited from the voluntary return process, expressed his profound gratitude to Morocco, its King, government, and people for the warm reception they received. He stated, "We extend our heartfelt thanks to His Majesty the King and the Moroccan government and people for the warm welcome that has been extended to us," acknowledging the efforts made by Moroccan authorities to facilitate their return to Sudan to contribute to its reconstruction and development.
