In March, the Borussia Mönchengladbach player confirmed that he had been approached by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). Wael Mohya has previously represented Germany at the U16, U17, and U18 levels. However, he recently declined an invitation to a DFB training camp to continue his development with his club. Among the reasons for his potential switch, besides his family roots, is the fact that the next FIFA World Cup will be hosted in Morocco. The tournament, set for 2030, will take place across six venues, with Morocco sharing hosting duties alongside Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
