Morocco's Coach Reflects on Challenging Friendly Match
Mohamed Ouahbi, the head coach of the Moroccan national football team, expressed that the recent friendly match against Mali served as a significant test for his players. He emphasized that the strength of the opposing team and the high pace of the game provided Morocco with invaluable experience as they concluded their training camp. In a post-match television interview, Ouahbi stated, "It was a good match. We played a genuine friendly characterized by equality and a high tempo against a very good team, and that is precisely what we were looking for. We did not want to end our camp with an easy match, and it was beneficial to face a team of this caliber."
The Moroccan coach pointed out that while the training camp was largely positive, certain areas still require improvement. He mentioned, "We identified aspects that we need to continue working on and enhancing. On the other hand, we recognized our strong capabilities, as the opponent faced considerable challenges in pressing us and regaining possession of the ball." Ouahbi acknowledged that the Moroccan team struggled with depth in their play at times during the match, noting that their performance improved after halftime, particularly in defensive aspects and controlling the flow of the game, with an increase in runs behind the opponent's defense.
He elaborated, "We left more spaces than necessary in the first half, and perhaps we tried to spark the game more than needed. However, in the second half, the game was more controlled, with deep runs, and we could have created clearer chances and scored goals." Ouahbi concluded by expressing his satisfaction with the overall outcome of the training camp, stating, "We are pleased with this concentration; it has been very useful, and we will continue to work, evolve, and progress. Today, we saw players who made a significant effort and ran a lot, and the pace and intensity that marked the match are very important because these encounters help us to evolve."
