On May 17, the streets of Casablanca transformed into a lively scene as over 16,000 runners participated in the WeCasablanca 10KM event, marking it as one of Morocco's most significant urban racing occasions. This year's race saw an impressive turnout of 16,254 participants hailing from 63 different countries, showcasing the growing global recognition of this event.

The race commenced at Boulevard Al Massira Al Khadra and wound through several iconic streets, attracting a diverse mix of professional athletes and enthusiastic amateurs alike, all united in a spirit of discipline and camaraderie. This event not only highlights the competitive nature of running but also reflects a broader cultural shift in Morocco where younger generations are increasingly embracing healthier lifestyles. The rise of running clubs and gym attendance has become commonplace, transforming the Corniche into a morning haven for runners and fitness enthusiasts.

Experts continue to emphasize the numerous health benefits associated with regular exercise, including reductions in obesity and cardiovascular diseases, lower stress levels, and improved overall mental health. For many participants, running has evolved beyond mere competition; it serves as a personal journey of self-discovery, resilience, and mental fortitude. As they strive to surpass their own limits, these athletes cultivate a sense of discipline that extends far beyond the race.

In the competitive realm of the WeCasablanca 10KM, Hicham Ouladha claimed first place, followed closely by Moroccan runner Yassine El Allami and Ethiopian athlete Biniyam Melak. The women's division saw Ethiopian Chane Fentaya Adane take the top spot, with Moroccan Birdaha Fatima Al Zahra and Ethiopian Kassie Wubrist Aschal following in second and third places, respectively. Since its inception in 2017, the WeCasablanca 10KM has dramatically grown from a modest participation of 1,100 runners in its first edition to over 16,000 today. Mohamed Jouahri, Managing Director of Casablanca Events & Animation, remarked on the event's evolution, emphasizing its importance in showcasing the city’s sporting aspirations and the commitment of Moroccans to active and healthy lifestyles.
