Market Overview: Stability in Vegetables and Red Meats

The weekly report from Casablanca Prestations, released on Wednesday, highlights a relative stability in the prices of vegetables and red meats, while some fruits exhibit notable declines. Tomatoes continue to maintain their high price levels, and zucchinis are on the rise, whereas avocados and imported apples are experiencing a downward trend. This market analysis, dated September 30, indicates some targeted adjustments across various food commodities, including red meats.

In the vegetable segment, the overall movement reflects stability without significant upheaval. Tomatoes remain steady at prices ranging from 2.00 to 5.50 dirhams per kilogram (DH/kg), preserving the levels achieved the previous week. The same stability is noted for zucchinis (2.00–6.00 DH/kg), fresh onions (2.50–4.00 DH/kg), potatoes (3.00–5.50 DH/kg), cauliflower (1.50–3.00 DH/kg), and eggplants (2.50–5.50 DH/kg). However, minor adjustments have been observed, particularly with zucchinis, which have seen their price ceiling rise from 7.00 DH/kg to 8.00 DH/kg, while their floor price remains stable at 4.00 DH/kg. Conversely, cucumbers have experienced a slight decrease, with their ceiling price dropping from 7.00 DH/kg to 6.00 DH/kg, while the floor price remains stable at 3.50 DH/kg. Carrots have also recorded a decline, with their price range shifting from 2.00–3.50 DH/kg to 1.50–3.00 DH/kg. Additionally, dry onions have marginally adjusted their ceiling price to 4.80 DH/kg from 5.00 DH/kg the previous week.

Fruits: Avocado Prices Drop, Citrus Fruits Stable

In the fruit category, the trend is more inclined towards a decline. The most significant drop has been observed in avocado prices, which have decreased from a range of 20.00–35.00 DH/kg to 18.00–28.00 DH/kg, reflecting a drop of 2 DH on the lower end and 7 DH on the higher end. Imported apples have also lost some ground, with their maximum price falling from 22.00 DH/kg to 20.00 DH/kg. However, several fruit varieties have maintained their price levels, including local bananas (9.00–11.00 DH/kg), imported bananas (9.00–14.00 DH/kg), oranges (4.00–7.00 DH/kg), local apples (5.00–9.00 DH/kg), pomegranates (4.00–8.00 DH/kg), and grapes (3.50–9.00 DH/kg). On a different note, clementines, newly introduced last week at a price range of 1.50–3.50 DH/kg, have seen their prices surge to 5.00–8.00 DH/kg, indicating strong demand as the citrus season begins.

Overall, this week’s report reflects a generally stable market for vegetables and red meats, while fruit prices show a more contrasted scenario. As clementines make a notable entry with significant price increases, avocados and imported apples are on the decline, illustrating the seasonal adjustments that are gradually shaping the wholesale market landscape in Casablanca.
