World Cup 2030: Optimaco and GTR Secure Major Contract for Casablanca Broadcasting Center

World Cup 2030 Preparations in Morocco

In a significant development for Morocco's preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the contract for the first phase of the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) has been awarded to the consortium of companies, Optimaco and GTR. This contract, amounting to 36.3 million dirhams, encompasses essential construction work including earthworks, structural work, and waterproofing of Hall 3 at the International Fair of Casablanca. The project is set to be completed within a five-month timeframe, marking a crucial step in the country's commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for the global football event.

Strategic Importance of the International Broadcasting Centre

The overall budget allocated for the completion of the IBC is estimated at a substantial 400 million dirhams. This facility is recognized as one of the key infrastructures required by FIFA for the successful organization of the World Cup. The IBC will serve as the nerve center for audiovisual production during the tournament, managing all video and audio feeds from the stadiums before distributing them to broadcasters worldwide. It is designed to accommodate the host broadcaster, television and radio stations holding broadcasting rights, video assistant referee (VAR) facilities, digital platforms, and major telecommunications operators.

FIFA's stringent requirements demand high-capacity equipment. For context, the International Broadcast Centre for the 2026 World Cup in Dallas spans approximately 45,000 square meters and supports nearly 2,000 media professionals daily for several months, from installation phases to dismantling. In addition to technical broadcast spaces, the Casablanca IBC is expected to provide a comprehensive suite of services to ensure smooth daily operations for international teams on-site, which includes offices, conference rooms, dining areas, logistics and banking facilities, as well as dedicated security measures.
