Wydad Casablanca Parts Ways with Coach Carteron After Just 37 Days

Wydad Casablanca's Coaching Change Amidst Crisis

In a surprising turn of events, Wydad Casablanca has officially parted ways with head coach Patrice Carteron after an underwhelming performance that saw the team struggle significantly in the Moroccan league. Following a disappointing home defeat to US Yacoub El Mansour, which marked their seventh consecutive match without a win, the decision to dismiss Carteron became inevitable. The loss, which ended with a score of 1-2, pushed Wydad deeper into a crisis, prompting management to take action quickly to restore the team’s fortunes.

New Leadership for Wydad

Just 24 hours after the painful defeat, Wydad Casablanca announced the termination of Carteron’s contract through an official statement, highlighting that the decision was mutually agreed upon. The club's performance under Carteron had been alarming, with only two draws and five losses recorded during his short tenure, which lasted a mere 37 days. In light of this situation, the club has appointed Mohamed Benchrifa as the interim coach until the end of the season. Benchrifa, who previously served as an assistant to notable coaches such as Faouzi Benzarti and Walid Regragui, is familiar with the club and is expected to bring a new perspective and strategy to the team. He will be supported by Youssef Achami, with Idriss Wajou taking on the role of physical trainer and Tarek Jarmouni overseeing goalkeepers. This coaching reshuffle comes at a crucial moment as Wydad seeks to turn their season around and regain their competitive edge in Moroccan football.
