Young Moroccan Author Nour Al-Huda Damraoui Releases Her Debut Novel 'The Epic of the Past'
At the tender age of thirteen, Moroccan student Nour Al-Huda Damraoui has made waves in the literary world with the release of her debut novel titled "The Epic of the Past." This remarkable achievement is a culmination of her extensive reading, nurtured by her family, school, and initiatives such as the National Reading Project, where she competed with peers in literary challenges. Her father, Idriss Damraoui, shared insights with Hespress, emphasizing how her journey into writing was ignited by her Arabic language teacher, Dr. Mohammed Asrar, during her first year of middle school in the city of Missour.
According to her father, Nour Al-Huda's writing journey began through her participation in the National Reading Project and the Arab Reading Challenge, where she excelled on a national level. She earned the title of eloquence champion in the Fes-Meknes region, showcasing her consistent dedication to both reading and studying. Additionally, she represents the Boulemane region in the Children’s Parliament, highlighting her active involvement in educational and literary activities.
Her passion for writing was further cultivated during her sixth year of primary school when she contributed an article to her institution's book, planting the seeds of her literary aspirations. As she transitioned to middle school, Nour Al-Huda continued to immerse herself in novels. Under the guidance of her teacher Asrar, who recognized her potential following her national achievements, she was encouraged to embark on her own writing journey. This pivotal moment led to the creation of "The Epic of the Past," with Nour Al-Huda currently working on two additional novels.
Not only is she a budding novelist, but she has also published contributions in various online magazines, including "Al-Harf Wal Kalima" and "Naboliss Cultural." The encouragement to publish her first novel came from the National Human Rights Association in Fes, aiming to promote youthful creativity. Additionally, her teacher Asrar played a crucial role by submitting her manuscript to Dar Kunouz Al-Ma'arifa, which subsequently published her work.
Her novel explores profound themes, as evident from its poignant excerpt: "He smiled a bitter smile, mocking himself. He took the pen and began to write, but he was not merely inscribing words. He was pouring out his pain, documenting his shattered hopes, and reflecting on the pivotal moments in a life crushed by reality. He wrote about the first encounter, the desires hidden behind words, the laughter that once filled the space, and that fateful day he discovered that all his dreams were nothing but a mirage." This powerful narrative not only showcases her literary talent but also reveals her deep understanding of human emotions and experiences.
