The Medina of Casablanca, where Ali resides, is characterized by significant poverty, and many young people are driven to leave in search of better prospects. Our country is beautiful, but Europe offers more. If you stay here, you can work for thirty years and get nowhere, like a hamster on a wheel." Another young man, Mohammed, only 17 years old, has made five attempts to emigrate within the past year. He has faced incarceration twice, and his frustration is palpable as he describes the pervasive drug culture in his community. "I can't take it anymore. There are all sorts of drugs here. Since I am still a minor, I believe I can still save myself by going there," he lamented. The youth unemployment rate in Morocco is alarmingly high, with 37% of individuals aged 15-24 unemployed in 2025, further exacerbating the desperation felt by these young people.
