YouTuber Ben Nsnas Faces Legal Consequences for Disturbing Act

The Tamara Court of First Instance has sentenced YouTuber Ben Nsnas to eight months of imprisonment along with a fine of 20,000 dirhams. This ruling comes in the wake of a significant uproar following his controversial act of skinning a dead dog during the recent Eid al-Adha celebrations. The court's decision reflects society's condemnation of acts deemed as animal cruelty and disrespectful to cultural sensitivities.

During the proceedings, which commenced with the initial hearing on September 8, the court dismissed civil claims from various organizations seeking further penalties. Instead, it opted for a straightforward punishment encompassing both incarceration and the financial penalty. The trial sessions coincided with a nationwide strike by the Moroccan Association of Lawyers, advocating against proposed changes to professional regulations.

The National Organization for Cyber Protection, an association monitoring the case, had previously requested a harsh sentence of five years in prison and a hefty fine of 500,000 dirhams for Ben Nsnas. The charges against him included "insulting Islam, killing and mutilating an animal without necessity, threatening to commit misdemeanors and felonies, corruption, inciting violence and aggression, and disseminating digital content violating public order and morals on YouTube." This case has sparked widespread discussion regarding the responsibilities of content creators and the implications of their actions on social media platforms.
