Zambia's Endorsement of Morocco's Sovereignty
In a significant diplomatic engagement, a joint statement was issued in Rabat following discussions between Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Mulambo Haimbe, who was on a working visit to Morocco. During this meeting, Mr. Haimbe articulated Zambia's unwavering support for the United Nations' efforts to achieve a resolution to the regional dispute concerning the Sahara. He specifically acknowledged Morocco's autonomy plan as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to this long-standing issue. This recognition underscores Zambia's commitment to a pragmatic and constructive approach aimed at fostering a durable and mutually acceptable political solution.
In response, Mr. Bourita commended the positive trajectory of relations between the two brotherly nations over recent years. This improvement has been particularly marked by the establishment of diplomatic presence, including the opening of Zambia's Embassy in Rabat and its Consulate General in Laayoune in October 2020, which has been pivotal in strengthening bilateral ties.
