Ongoing Legal Inquiry into the August 20 Injection Incident in Casablanca
The judicial authorities at the Ain Sebaa Court in Casablanca, Morocco, are currently pursuing an investigation related to victims of the so-called "August 20 injection". A number of these individuals have accused the August 20 Hospital of causing them to lose their sight due to the administration of what they describe as an improper injection. In response to these serious allegations, the public prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Court has forwarded the case to the judicial police to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.
Families of the victims are anxiously awaiting the outcomes of the ongoing investigations, which were initiated following directives from the public prosecutor's office. This case, having been referred to the preliminary court by the attorney general, has seen families visiting the prosecutor's office to inquire about its progress. They were assured that the police investigation is still active and ongoing.
One relative of a victim expressed to the online news outlet Hespress that families are eagerly anticipating the results of the judicial inquiry, which has faced significant delays while it was under the jurisdiction of the appeals court before being transferred to the preliminary court. Many victims are reportedly living in dire conditions due to the injuries they sustained from the injection, with no intervention to provide them with justice or compensation for the damages incurred.
In her statement, the family member underscored the victims' hopes that the judicial authorities would expedite the ongoing investigation to ensure justice for those harmed by the injection, as well as to address the prolonged delays in resolving the case. The victims had received a medication injection known as "intra-vitreal injection" at the August 20 Hospital after purchasing a solution called "Avastin" from a pharmacy located near the hospital. However, they were alarmed to discover a total loss of vision in the injected eye as the anesthesia wore off.
Previously, the victims' families had sent a letter to the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, Mohamed Mehidiya, urging the August 20 Hospital to assume responsibility for their treatment, cover all necessary expenses, and monitor their health conditions resulting from the hospital's alleged mistake.
