Major Turf Development Project at Casablanca's Grand Stadium Marks New Milestone

New Turf Installation at Casablanca's Grand Stadium

The Grand Stadium in Casablanca, located in the Benslimane province, is set to undergo significant turf development as the National Agency for Public Equipment (ANEP) announces the successful bid for the installation of the playing field. The awarded contract, amounting to 92,473,875.60 dirhams inclusive of all taxes, marks a pivotal step in enhancing the stadium's facilities.

As detailed in a notice reviewed by _Hespress_, this contract pertains to lot number 8, which involves the installation of a hybrid natural grass combined with artificial turf. The project has been awarded to a consortium consisting of SOMECOTRAD and ROYALVERD SERVICE SLU, the latter being a Catalan company.

Initially, four bidders participated in the tender process, but after a thorough review of administrative and technical documents, one company was eliminated. Ultimately, only two candidates progressed to the financial phase following the evaluation of technical offers. The required provisional guarantee for this tender was set at one million dirhams.

Advanced Technology to Enhance Turf Quality

The specifications for the project, developed under the supervision of the National Society for the Realization and Management of Sports Equipment (SONARGES) as the contracting authority, and ANEP as the delegated contracting authority, call for the use of hybrid natural grass technology. This innovation integrates natural vegetation with synthetic fibers, providing mechanical reinforcement to the turf. The goal is to enhance the lawn's resilience and enable it to withstand the high demands associated with hosting matches.

The technical provisions also include several pieces of equipment aimed at maintaining the quality of the playing surface and optimizing the grass's growth conditions. An advanced aeration system and forced underground drainage will be implemented to control soil moisture and promote healthy turf development.

Additionally, mobile LED artificial lighting units will be installed to compensate for insufficient sunlight, alongside an intelligent irrigation system featuring centralized control and sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, and salinity.

The project is expected to be completed within fourteen months, with the contractor also obligated to provide comprehensive maintenance of the grass for a period of twenty-four months following the provisional acceptance of the works. This provision aims to ensure the longevity of the equipment and maintain the performance of the playing surface.

This turf project is part of a broader development program. Earlier in October, a contract for the exterior enhancements of the Grand Stadium was awarded to the CMS-GTR consortium for approximately 2.7 billion dirhams. This contract encompasses the landscaping surrounding the sports infrastructure, as well as its connection to various road networks and utilities such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and sanitation.

With these two contracts, the developments are set to significantly improve both the playing equipment and the external spaces necessary for the operation of this sports complex.
