Military Security: Mali Seeks Expertise from Morocco's FAR

Strengthening Security Ties Between Morocco and Mali

A high-ranking delegation from Mali, led by Major General Sambo Minkourou Diakité, the head of Mali's military security, recently visited Morocco from October 18 to 22, 2026. This visit, as announced by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), aimed to enhance the strategic partnership and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the security sector.

During their stay, the Malian delegation was received at the headquarters of the FAR's general staff by Major General Ahmed Laghlid, head of the 5th Bureau (military intelligence). Reports from media outlets in Bamako indicate that the discussions focused on sharing experiences and expertise in military security, along with the training of specialized units. These exchanges are designed to bolster cooperation between the two armies in crucial areas pertinent to their operational missions.

Additionally, the Malian delegation had the opportunity to visit the Security and Defense Instruction Center, where they attended presentations on the training of officers and non-commissioned officers in military security. It is noteworthy that Morocco and Mali previously held their first meeting of the joint military commission in February of this year in Bamako. More recently, on October 7, the Inspector General of the FAR, General Mohammed Berrid, also welcomed a delegation from the Malian army.
