Morocco's Dirham Shows Positive Movement Against Dollar and Euro Amid Financial Updates

In a recent report, Bank Al-Maghrib announced that the Moroccan dirham experienced an increase of 0.61% against the US dollar and 0.17% against the euro during the period from October 15 to 21, 2026. This positive performance reflects the stability and resilience of the Moroccan currency in the face of fluctuating global economic conditions.

According to the latest weekly indicators published by Bank Al-Maghrib, no tender operations were conducted in the foreign exchange market during this timeframe. Furthermore, official reserve assets stood at 510.2 billion dirhams as of October 16, marking a 1% decline compared to the previous week but an impressive 18.8% increase year-on-year, demonstrating the strength of Morocco's financial reserves.

Regarding interventions by Bank Al-Maghrib, the average daily intervention amounted to 147.2 billion dirhams during the same period. These interventions were distributed among 7-day advances totaling 51.8 billion dirhams, long-term repurchase agreements amounting to 44.9 billion dirhams, and guaranteed loans of 50.5 billion dirhams. Such measures indicate the bank's proactive approach in managing liquidity and ensuring financial stability in the Moroccan economy.

On the interbank market level, the average daily trading volume reached 3 billion dirhams, while the interbank rate stabilized at 2.25%. In the tender held on October 21, 2026, with a maturity date of October 22, the central bank injected 50.6 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances, further supporting liquidity in the banking sector.

In the stock market, the "Masi" index rose by 0.2%, reducing its negative performance since the beginning of the year to -9.8%. This development primarily reflects increases in the indicators of the real estate participation and recovery sectors by 8.4%, banks by 0.8%, transportation services by 2.1%, and metals by 1.1%. However, the construction and building materials index and the telecommunications index recorded declines of 2.2% and 2.9%, respectively.

Comparatively, the weekly trading volume saw a decrease from 0.9 billion dirhams to 0.8 billion dirhams, primarily achieved in the stock market. These fluctuations in market activity underline the ongoing adjustments within Morocco's financial landscape.
