In a remarkable showcase of talent, Moroccan footballer Ayoub Bouaddi and Algerian star Ibrahim Mazaa secured the sixth and ninth positions, respectively, in the final rankings of the prestigious Kopa Trophy for the Best Young Player (under 21) of 2026. This coveted award was claimed by Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, marking his third consecutive win of this accolade.
Bouaddi, who previously played for Lille in France and currently represents Manchester City, finished in sixth place. He outperformed notable competitors including Bosnian Karim Alagic, a Juventus player, French forward Ely Junior Koubi of Bournemouth, and Swiss Johan Manzambi from Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Mazaa, a standout player for Bayer Leverkusen and the Algerian national team, secured the ninth spot in a list that highlighted ten of the most promising emerging talents in global football.
The rankings revealed a strong presence of African talent, with Bouaddi and Mazaa joining Ivorian Yan Diomande, who finished fifth. This trend underscores the growing prominence of African players in the race for individual awards dedicated to the stars of tomorrow. The Kopa Trophy ceremony was held on October 26, 2026, at the London Palladium in the United Kingdom, commemorating the legacy of Sir Stanley Matthews, the first winner of the award in 1956.
Amidst historic achievements and notable declines, Achraf Hakimi found himself at a pivotal juncture in the Ballon d'Or race. The latest edition of this prestigious award brought unexpected surprises regarding his position among the world's elite players, despite his strong performance with Paris Saint-Germain. Fans eagerly await the announcement of the top ten players in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings, which include football legends such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, and Ousmane Dembélé, leading up to the revelation of the award winner during the London gala.
Lamine Yamal's triumph as the best young player in the world for 2026 solidifies his place in the history of the Kopa Trophy, making him the first player ever to win it three times consecutively.
