Morocco Sees Record Growth in US Debt Holdings

Significant Increase in US Debt Holdings by Morocco

In a remarkable development, the value of US Treasury securities and bonds held by Moroccan investors has surged by over one billion dollars, equivalent to approximately 10 billion dirhams, within a mere four-month period. As of the end of August 2026, these holdings reached an impressive total of 4.9 billion dollars. This notable increase reflects a sustained growth in the financial assets associated with Morocco within the American debt market, a trend that showcases the country's expanding economic engagement on an international scale.

Recent data released by the United States Department of the Treasury, as part of the International Capital Flows (TIC) statistics, revealed that the value of Morocco's US debt holdings rose to 4.906 billion dollars by the end of August. This marks an increase from 4.777 billion dollars observed in July, indicating a monthly growth of 129 million dollars, or approximately 1.25 billion dirhams, which translates to a growth rate of 2.7%. This uptick represents the fourth consecutive monthly increase, further emphasizing the bullish trend in Morocco's investment portfolio within the US debt market.

The acceleration in the growth of Morocco's debt portfolio highlights the country's strategic positioning and confidence in the stability and reliability of US financial instruments. As Morocco continues to diversify its investment avenues and enhance its financial standing globally, this significant uptick in US debt holdings is a testament to its robust economic policies and the increasing trust of Moroccan investors in American securities.
