Surge of Warm Weather in Spain Thanks to Morocco
The weather in Spain is about to experience a significant shift as a mass of subtropical air originating from Morocco and North Africa makes its way towards the Iberian Peninsula. This change comes on the heels of recent severe rain and wind events that affected several regions, particularly in Catalonia and the Valencia Community. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has reported that starting this Monday, temperatures are expected to rise dramatically, reaching highs of around 30°C in cities such as Seville, Córdoba, and Alicante.
Weather forecasts indicate that the warm air will create a summery atmosphere in the final days of October. Specifically, on Monday, maximum temperatures are anticipated to be close to 31°C in Seville, 28°C in Córdoba and Granada, 29°C in Badajoz, and around 27°C in Huelva, Alicante, and Almería. This increase in temperature represents a rise of between 4 and 7 degrees above the seasonal average for this time of year, highlighting an unusual warm spell that is more characteristic of late September than late October.
In contrast, the Mediterranean, mountainous regions, and parts of northern Spain will experience milder conditions, maintaining temperatures more typical for the end of October. The European models predict a gradual recovery of maximum temperatures in these northern and inland areas, although they are not expected to reach the highs seen in the southern regions.
The week ahead is projected to be stable, characterized by predominantly sunny weather with minimal precipitation, except for some light rain expected in the extreme northern parts of the peninsula on Tuesday. The AEMET has stated that this unusual weather pattern is likely to continue for several days, providing a brief respite from the earlier autumn storms.
