New Developments in the Disappearance of Clément Besneville: Investigation Findings Shared with French Justice

Investigation Progress in the Clément Besneville Case

More than two years after the mysterious disappearance of Clément Besneville in Rabat, Moroccan authorities have forwarded a portion of their investigative findings to the French judiciary. Clément, a French national who converted to Islam, vanished under puzzling circumstances, prompting authorities to explore multiple leads while also encountering enigmatic gaps in the investigation.

In a police station in Rabat, a witness identified as Mehdi recalls the last encounter he had with the missing Frenchman. He states that he last saw Clément, who is also known by his Muslim name Abdallah, on the second day of Eid al-Fitr, specifically on April 11, 2024. This interaction took place at Mehdi's shop located on Avenue Laalou in the Ocean neighborhood, near the historical Kasbah of the Oudayas. The time was approximately 12:30 PM, indicating that Clément was active in his community shortly before his sudden disappearance.

By February 2026, French authorities were informed about significant aspects of the investigation being conducted in Morocco, particularly those related to Clément Besneville's case. This information was shared under the auspices of the King’s Attorney General at the Rabat Court of Appeal, following a request for international legal assistance. However, the Besneville family has only received sporadic updates, with critical details from the first three months of the investigation still not disclosed to the French judicial system, raising concerns about the adequacy of the ongoing investigation.

Over the past two and a half years, Didier and Véronique Besneville, Clément's parents, have been tirelessly traveling back and forth to Rabat. They have engaged with members of the consulate, Moroccan justice, and police officials while conducting their own inquiries within the Ocean neighborhood. The couple is convinced that their son would never have chosen to disappear voluntarily. In an effort to garner attention and support, Didier Besneville has reached out to high-profile officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, seeking assistance in their quest for answers regarding their son's fate.
