Trump Critiques Spain's Control Over Migrant Crisis at Ceuta

Trump's Allegations Against Spain's Border Management

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump made headlines by accusing the Spanish government of exhibiting "zero control" over its border with Morocco. He referred to the situation in Ceuta, which has been grappling with a surge of migrants from Moroccan territory, as "sad." Through his social media platforms, Trump expressed his concerns, stating, "It is very sad what is happening in Spain, a country that has no control over its border. Wow!" This statement marks yet another instance of Trump publicly criticizing the immigration policies of Pedro Sánchez's administration.

In recent days, Trump's remarks have become increasingly pointed, labeling Spain as a "ruined country" while also questioning the effectiveness of Spanish authorities in dealing with the ongoing migration crisis. Following the initial wave of migrants, he suggested that the influx could be attributed to Spain's "weak laws" and ineffective governance. Trump claimed that Spanish officials were at a loss regarding how to respond to the massive arrival of migrants from Morocco.

Additionally, Trump referenced a ruling from the Spanish Supreme Court issued in July, which stated that migrants who reach Spanish territory by swimming cannot be automatically returned. The Spanish government has identified this interpretation as one of the factors that have fueled the large-scale crossing of migrants into Ceuta, further complicating the situation.
