18th Regional Book and Reading Fair Concludes in Oulad Taima

Celebrating Culture and Literature at the 18th Regional Book Fair

The 18th edition of the Regional Book and Reading Fair concluded yesterday at the cultural complex in Oulad Taima, located in the Taroudant province. This year's event was held under the theme "Howara: The Essence of History and Love for Culture," showcasing a rich tapestry of literary and cultural activities.

Organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture for the Souss-Massa region, with support from the Directorate of Books, Libraries, and Archives, in partnership with the Oulad Taima Municipal Council and the Howari Agricultural Club, this event aligns with the strategic goals set forth by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – specifically within the cultural sector. This initiative aims to promote the book industry, enhance reading habits, and broaden access to knowledge across the community.

Fostering Creativity and Dialogue through Literature

The fair has established itself as a significant annual event in the region, aimed at supporting various stakeholders involved in writing, publishing, and distribution. It serves as a space for direct communication between authors and readers, fostering cultural dialogue and encouraging the exchange of experiences and expertise. Moreover, it plays a crucial role in instilling a reading culture among youth, which is essential for intellectual and social development.

During the closing ceremony, several cultural and creative figures were honored for their outstanding contributions to the literary field and for enhancing the cultural landscape at both regional and national levels. The atmosphere was filled with appreciation and pride for cultural contributions, celebrating the collective effort to elevate the significance of literature.

This event also provided an opportunity to recognize students who excelled in various cultural and literary competitions held during the fair, whether in educational institutions, the cultural complex, or within the exhibition space. Such initiatives aim to encourage young people to engage with reading and creativity, fostering their cultural awareness and strengthening their connection to books as vital tools for knowledge and exploration.

On this occasion, Zineb El Omrani, the Regional Director of Youth, Culture, and Communication (Cultural Sector) for the Souss-Massa region, emphasized the notable success of this edition regarding participation and attendance. She highlighted that the fair has become an annual cultural milestone that invigorates the cultural dynamics of the region and enhances the visibility of books in public spaces.

El Omrani further stated in an interview with the Moroccan News Agency that this event exemplified a commitment to fostering a culture of proximity by making books accessible to various segments of society, particularly children and youth, through a wide range of activities that combine educational and creative dimensions. This approach not only strengthens their relationship with reading but also encourages their involvement in cultural activities.

She noted that the success of this edition reflects the collaborative efforts of various partners and stakeholders, underscoring the importance of continuing to support such initiatives that contribute to the advancement of the cultural sector and reinforce the role of books as instruments for development and openness.

This year's fair featured significant participation from numerous national and regional publishing houses, as well as public institutions, universities, and cultural associations. A diverse array of contemporary publications was showcased, covering various literary and intellectual fields, including novels, poetry, studies, and children's books, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the latest cultural offerings and purchase books in a conducive environment.
