Fusion of Berber Heritage and Minimalist Design
Nour and Adam, a couple residing in Switzerland, describe their ideal vacation home as a harmonious blend of authenticity and modernity, crafted by the Marrakchi architecture firm Aire au Carré. They selected a long, narrow plot nestled in the heart of the Palmeraie of Marrakech, which evokes memories of the Berber villages from their heritage. This desire to connect their children with their roots is reflected in their vision, which seeks to strike a balance between Moroccan craftsmanship and contemporary finishes. The architects, Dorothée Ricard and Sylvain Ragueneau, skillfully incorporated local materials, such as Taza stone flooring and Moroccan brick baseboards, throughout both the interior and exterior of the villa. The walls are adorned with lime paint, while the living and dining room ceilings showcase a distinctive rough concrete finish.
An Oasis of Serenity and Natural Harmony
The villa features expansive glass doors that open onto a serene garden filled with palm trees and cacti, encapsulating the essence of nature. Thoughtfully designed by POA paysage, the garden serves as a lush refuge, complementing a striking green marble swimming pool from the Atlas Mountains. The outdoor area is furnished with custom-made wooden loungers from Moon Garden and sofas designed by Aire au Carré, creating a perfect space for relaxation. Inside, the décor reflects a soothing atmosphere that encourages contemplation, with light wood tones and natural materials harmonizing throughout. The couple emphasizes that this home has become their sanctuary, a place where they gather to breathe, reconnect, and cherish what truly matters.
In the living area, traditional Moroccan craftsmanship meets modern architecture, epitomized by handcrafted local brick flooring paired with a contemporary concrete staircase. The blend of styles continues with Brazilian design elements and Moroccan artisanal pieces, resulting in a unique aesthetic. The kitchen, functional and stylish, features stainless steel and oak, where Nour and Adam prepare traditional Moroccan dishes, showcasing their culinary heritage.
The villa's design extends to a beautifully open library that overlooks a tranquil water feature, providing an immersive experience with nature. Each room is meticulously curated with bespoke furniture designed by Aire au Carré, emphasizing comfort and sophistication. The overall ambiance combines terracotta hues in the bedrooms with bright, mineral-inspired bathrooms that exude luxury and simplicity.
This contemporary retreat encapsulates the beauty of Moroccan heritage while embracing modern design, offering its inhabitants a tranquil escape amidst the vibrant landscape of Marrakech.
