Students Embark on an Extraordinary Adventure to Marrakech
In an exciting initiative dubbed "Project Silhouette 2026," students from the Ipsia Vassallo institute in Galeata are gearing up for a remarkable journey that will see a restored motorcycle travel thousands of kilometers from Italy to Marrakech, Morocco. This ambitious project not only showcases the technical skills of the students involved but also acts as a bridge between cultures, particularly as it highlights the connections between the local community and Moroccan families residing in Galeata.
The motorcycle in question, a vintage Gilera RC 600 R produced in 1993, has been meticulously restored by third-year students under the guidance of their dedicated teachers: Professors La Ferrera, Greppi, Barchi, and Spagnoli, with professional mechanic Simone Gilli overseeing the technical aspects of the restoration. This endeavor is particularly poignant as it pays homage to the late Professor Nuzzolo, a passionate motorcyclist and one of the project’s co-founders, who passed away a year ago.
A Journey of Learning and Cultural Exchange
The journey is set to take place from July 19 to 31, during which the motorcycle will traverse through Italy, France, Spain, and finally, Morocco, demonstrating the durability and reliability of a well-maintained vintage bike. Professor Enrico Peperoni, the coordinator of the project, will ride the motorcycle solo, with no support crew, to emphasize the importance of proper planning and technical expertise when undertaking such a significant expedition.
Upon arrival in Marrakech, Professor Peperoni will be welcomed by the Italian Consulate, symbolizing the cultural ties that the project aims to strengthen. As Maura Bernabei, the head of the Iis Baracca in Forlì, eloquently stated, "The value of this initiative extends well beyond its technical aspects. Silhouette 2026 is our heartfelt tribute to the memory of Professor Nuzzolo, and it exemplifies how our school engages with the broader community."
This adventure is the third international project the institute has undertaken this academic year, following previous experiences where students participated in electric vehicle competitions in Dubai and Washington. The motorcycle journey not only serves as a thrilling challenge but also as a practical application of the students' skills and knowledge, fostering a spirit of adventure and curiosity that will resonate with them for years to come.
