Unforgettable Aerial Displays by Saudi and Emirati Air Forces
The vibrant skies of Marrakech were alive with excitement during the first day of the Marrakech Air Show, where the Moroccan Royal Air Forces' "Al Massira Al Khadra" patrol captivated audiences alongside the impressive performances of the Saudi Royal Air Force's "Saudi Hawks". Piloted by skilled aviators flying locally assembled Hawk T165 aircraft, the demonstrations showcased a remarkable blend of cutting-edge technology and exceptional human skill, all under the powerful rumble of jet engines that resonated throughout the venue.
This marked the first participation of the Saudi airmen at the eighth edition of the Marrakech Air Show, which opened its doors to the public on Wednesday. The pilots executed a series of breathtaking aerobatic maneuvers, both individually and in formation, soaring vertically into the sunlit sky and leaving behind colorful trails that vividly traced their paths. The crowd was treated to sequences featuring intricate spirals and daring evolutions, highlighting the pilots' precision and expertise as they regained stability with remarkable accuracy, a testament to their extensive training and experience.
Showcasing the Excellence of the Emirates Knights
Equally impressive were the "Emirates Knights", the aerobatic team of the United Arab Emirates Air Force, who left a lasting impression in the Marrakech skies. Seven jet aircraft, each representing one of the seven emirates of the federation—Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah—performed spectacular maneuvers and high-speed passes. Among the standout figures was a crossing maneuver where two jets, launched from opposite directions, narrowly passed each other at low altitude before continuing their flight paths to join the rest of the demonstration.
Throughout the performance, the aircraft created long smoke trails in the colors of the Emirati flag, moving in formations that resembled an aerial explosion. The Chinese L-15E jets utilized by the team executed simultaneous high-speed ascents before dispersing in various directions, only to regroup with millimeter precision, showcasing their mastery of maintaining safe distances between pilots during complex maneuvers.
Established in 2008 under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the "Emirates Knights" made their international debut at the Dubai Airshow in 2011. Initially flying the renowned Italian Aermacchi MB-339 aircraft, they transitioned last year to advanced Chinese jets featuring a fully digital flight control system (Fly-by-Wire) and powerful engines, providing pilots with enhanced precision and safety in executing intricate aerial maneuvers.
The show culminated in one of the signature formations of the Emirati team, named "UAE DNA". Five aircraft flew in a straight-line formation while two others executed helical rotations around their trajectory. Utilizing smoke grenades in red, green, black, and white, the pilots artistically crafted a depiction of the double helix structure of DNA in the sky, offering the audience a stunning demonstration of synchronization and precision.
