Calls for the Restoration of Ceuta and Melilla by Abdel Salam Al-Aziz
Abdel Salam Al-Aziz, the Secretary-General of the Left Federation Party, has recently urged for concerted efforts aimed at restoring the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, as well as the Chafarinas Islands. He emphasized that his party's stance on this issue remains steadfast and unequivocal. Speaking during his visit to the Al-Faqih Al-Tetouani Foundation on Thursday, Al-Aziz reiterated that the Left Federation Party has consistently asserted Morocco's right to Ceuta and Melilla, both at the national level and in its interactions with various Spanish political parties.
He noted that the positions of Spanish parties regarding the occupied cities do not come as a surprise, given the historical and political contexts that have shaped Spain's handling of this matter. Al-Aziz pointed out that similar stances have been prevalent among various Spanish political factions, albeit with some exceptions. He stressed that the defense of Morocco's claim over Ceuta and Melilla should not be confined to political rhetoric alone; rather, it necessitates the strengthening of Morocco's internal front and the development of a strategic approach to the issue that takes into account regional and international transformations.
Furthermore, Al-Aziz asserted that his party views the recovery of these cities and the Chafarinas Islands as a consistent goal. He called for a thoughtful examination of methods and mechanisms to address this issue beyond mere reactive measures, proposing the establishment of a think tank to explore various dimensions of the topic, echoing sentiments once expressed by the late King Hassan II.
