African CIO Awards 2026: Celebrating Digital Excellence and Innovation
The African CIO Awards (ACA) returns for its third edition, taking place on April 7 and 8, 2026, in Marrakech, coinciding with GITEX Africa. This prestigious event is dedicated to recognizing the achievements of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and innovators across the African continent. Organized by CIO Mag, which has its roots in Marrakech, this awards ceremony has become a significant platform for honoring leaders, projects, and organizations that are shaping the future of digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa.
Supported by Morocco's Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and in partnership with GITEX, the African CIO Awards aim to highlight impactful technological initiatives while promoting responsible, inclusive innovation that aligns with the continent's economic and social challenges. This event serves as a strategic hub for the African digital ecosystem, bringing together business leaders, public decision-makers, CIOs, tech startups, AI experts, investors, and specialized media.
Strategic Focus on Artificial Intelligence
The 2026 edition will particularly emphasize the strategic alignment of artificial intelligence with organizational goals, fostering innovative, ethical, and sustainable solutions. Projects will compete across various categories, including AI for organizational performance, AI applications in critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and fintech, as well as ethical and responsible AI practices. Categories also cover cybersecurity and AI, AI for sustainability and inclusion, and innovative AI-based products and services.
Winners of this edition will receive fully funded participation in the Learning Expedition Geneva 2026, organized by CIO MAG in collaboration with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services. This immersive three-day experience (September 21-25, 2026) will provide strategic access to key international institutions such as the UN, ITU, CERN, WIPO, the Geneva Internet Platform, and DiploFoundation, alongside the Swiss innovation ecosystem.
Special awards will also be presented, honoring exceptional contributions and achievements, including a special diaspora award recognizing international talent impact, the AI Personality of the Year award celebrating innovation and leadership in AI, and a public award determined by an open online vote.
The previous editions have showcased the growing interest in this pan-African initiative, with increasing participation and recognition. In 2024, there were 40 applications from eight African countries, leading to 12 finalists and eight winners, with a gala ceremony held at the Palais Soleiman in Marrakech attended by 250 guests. The following year saw 42 applications from 13 countries, culminating in a gathering of nearly 300 participants at the Four Seasons Hotel. The 2026 edition is set to feature 56 applications from 16 countries, further solidifying the African CIO Awards as a pivotal event in the continent's digital landscape.
