The Launch of a Revolutionary Battery Gigafactory in Morocco
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has recently announced the approval of a substantial loan amounting to €100 million (approximately $117 million) aimed at financing an integrated lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery gigafactory in Morocco. This ambitious project, spearheaded by Gotion Power Morocco, will be situated in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Free Trade Zone and is set to play a critical role in establishing the first integrated battery manufacturing facility in Africa, as well as in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
This initiative is not just about establishing a manufacturing plant; it embodies a vision to create a new industrial landscape for electric mobility in Morocco. The gigafactory is expected to produce an impressive 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery cells and packs for electric vehicles in its initial phase, with grand plans to increase capacity to a total of 100 GWh in subsequent expansions. Job Creation and Economic Impact

It is anticipated that over 600 direct jobs will be created during the initial phase of the plant's operation.
