African Futsal Cup 2026: Morocco's Quest to Retain the Title

On October 11, 2026, Hicham Dakiq, the head coach of Morocco's national futsal team, expressed his unwavering commitment to defending their continental title during the upcoming African Futsal Cup, set to take place in Morocco from October 12 to 21. In a press conference preceding the crucial match against Algeria, Dakiq emphasized that the national team is fully prepared to embark on a remarkable journey, aiming to retain their title on home soil. He acknowledged that playing in front of a home crowd can create pressure but also serves as an extra motivation for the team to deliver an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Addressing the team's composition, Dakiq indicated that player selection was based on their performances in international matches. The inclusion of four new players signifies a renewed roster, necessitating more intensive preparations. He noted that the opening match against Algeria would be particularly challenging, as the opposing team has adequately prepared and comprises professional players competing abroad. Nevertheless, Dakiq assured that the Moroccan team has primed itself to showcase its best form during the tournament.

Similarly, the team captain, Soufiane Mserar, affirmed that preparations have been conducted under optimal conditions, and the squad is ready to defend the continental title while maintaining their leading status in Africa. He highlighted the necessity for the Moroccan team, as the frontrunner, to demonstrate its superiority on the field regardless of the opponent, stressing the importance of winning the opening match against Algeria for the remainder of the competition.

According to the draw, the Moroccan national team has been placed in Group A alongside Algeria, Zambia, and Libya. They will kick off their campaign in this tournament with a match against Algeria on Monday, starting at 8 PM at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sports Hall in Rabat. This championship not only serves as a platform for showcasing talent but also as an opportunity for Morocco to solidify its position in the world of futsal.
