African Champions League Preliminary Round Results
In an exciting start to the African Champions League preliminary round, Egyptian football club Pyramids FC secured a convincing 2-0 victory against Kenyan side Gor Mahia. The match took place on Sunday, with Pyramids demonstrating their dominance early on by scoring two crucial goals in the first half. Walid Karti opened the scoring just five minutes into the game, capitalizing on a rebound from a shot by his teammate Mostafa Fathi, which had been parried by Gor Mahia's goalkeeper. Mahmoud Saber later solidified Pyramids' lead with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area in stoppage time of the first half.
Despite having more possession throughout the game, Gor Mahia struggled to convert their chances and were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately falling short against a well-organized Pyramids side that effectively utilized counter-attacks to maintain their advantage. The victory puts Pyramids in a strong position to advance in the tournament as they head into the return leg.
In another match from the same round, Moroccan club FUS Rabat enjoyed a resounding 4-1 win over Burkina Faso's Rahimo FC, positioning themselves well for progression in the continental competition. Adam Brika kickstarted the scoring for FUS Rabat in the 7th minute with a low shot, establishing early dominance for the home team. Solomon Aloush doubled the lead just before halftime with an impressive strike from the left side, finding the far corner of the goal. Although Rahimo FC managed to pull one back through Rodri Keri shortly after the hour mark, FUS Rabat quickly restored their two-goal cushion with a goal from Devin Titus in the 72nd minute and capped off their scoring with a powerful finish from Christopher Ibaye, sealing a comprehensive victory.
Meanwhile, Algerian team Moloudia Algiers faced off against Niger’s Nigelec, but the match ended in a goalless draw. Moloudia Algiers managed to keep a clean sheet under the guidance of their new coach Khaled Ben Yahya, setting the stage for a challenging return leg where they will seek to advance further in the competition. The return matches are scheduled to take place on September 12 and 13.
