Agadir: Shellfish Products from Imi Ouaddar Banned
The harvesting and marketing of shellfish products originating from the classified zone of Imi Ouaddar, located in the Agadir region, have been officially prohibited until the environment is completely purified, as announced by the State Secretariat responsible for Maritime Fisheries. This decision comes in light of analyses conducted by the National Institute of Halieutic Research (INRH), which revealed the presence of marine toxins in mussels at concentrations exceeding the permitted health standards.
This precautionary measure aims to protect consumers from potential health risks associated with contaminated shellfish. Authorities recommend that consumers only purchase shellfish products that are packaged and bear identification health labels. Additionally, these products should be sold at authorized points of sale, particularly official markets. The State Secretariat has issued a warning against purchasing bulk or unmarked products, which do not guarantee safety and could pose a public health risk.
The ban will remain in effect until the health conditions of the area allow for the resumption of harvesting and marketing of the affected products. Consumers are urged to stay informed and prioritize their health and safety when selecting seafood products.
