Agadir Set to Host National Cycling Elite at the Throne Cup

Agadir: The Heart of National Cycling

Agadir is poised to become the epicenter of national cycling as it prepares to host the prestigious Throne Cup for road cycling and mountain biking on August 1st and 2nd. This significant event, organized by the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation (FRMC), will bring together the elite of Moroccan sports clubs for two days of high-level competition. The Throne Cup not only showcases athletic prowess but also aims to boost the tourism profile of the Souss region, leveraging the area’s modern infrastructures and logistical advantages.

Event Schedule and Competitions

According to a statement from the FRMC, the event will kick off on Saturday, August 1st, with individual road cycling races taking place on a closed circuit adjacent to the Grand Stadium of Agadir starting at 9:00 AM. This competition is open to athletes of all age categories in both men's and women's divisions. The following day, Sunday, August 2nd, will be dedicated to mountain biking, featuring Olympic Cross-Country events at the El Aïn Skhouna station in Drargua, also commencing at 9:00 AM. The Throne Cup serves as a vital platform for fostering competitive spirit among participants while promoting the rich culture and natural beauty of Agadir.

The organization of this event is a collaborative effort between the FRMC and the Souss-Massa League, alongside the Agadir Mountain Biking Club and the Najah Souss Cycling Association. The organizers have set ambitious goals to establish the Throne Cup as a cornerstone of the national sports calendar and to invigorate the tourism industry in Agadir. Last year’s competition took place in Azilal and Demnate, and this new edition will see reigning champions vying to defend their titles. In the senior category, Kamal Mahrouk from the Agadir Cycling Club and Salma Hariri from the El Majd Serghini Club took home victories in road cycling, while mountain biking titles were won by Youssef Sakine and Bilal Arid from Ajial Demnate, with Fatima Zahra El Ouardighi from Agadir triumphing in the women’s category.
