Agadir's Cable Car Sees Unprecedented Summer Visitor Surge
The Agadir cable car has witnessed a remarkable increase in visitor numbers since the inception of the summer season in 2026. This aerial attraction, which connects the city to the historic Kasbah of Agadir Oufella, has become a focal point for both local residents and international tourists eager to explore the stunning landscapes of the Souss region from a unique vantage point. As the summer unfolds, the cable car has drawn an influx of Moroccan nationals, expatriates, and foreign tourists, all eager to experience the breathtaking views offered by this iconic ride.
Suspended between earth and sky, the cable car cabins provide an extraordinary experience, showcasing panoramic views of the bay, the port, and the surrounding hills that cradle Agadir. Visitors from across the country, including those from cities like Oujda and Nador, have expressed their delight at the opportunity to see Agadir from above. For instance, Najat, a tourist from Oujda, shared her enthusiasm, stating, "The experience we had in the cable car was truly magnificent. Despite a bit of fog, we were able to enjoy a beautiful view from the top. Everything looks different from up here, it’s an exceptional landscape."
Other visitors echoed similar sentiments, noting that the views from the mountain are unparalleled. Abdellah, who visited Agadir for the first time, remarked, "This is my first time in Agadir, and while I enjoyed my visit to Tangier, the view from this mountain is incomparable. It’s a place I had only seen in pictures, and now I’m experiencing the beauty of the site firsthand." Regular visitors also appreciate the charm of the ride, particularly during sunset. Hassane, another frequent visitor, commented, "I come regularly and always take in the scenery, especially at this time of day. Both the ascent and descent offer stunning views."
For tourists, the cable car has emerged as a significant addition to Agadir's attractions. Hassane pointed out, "This is a crucial enhancement for Agadir Oufella. It boosts the city’s appeal and positions it as a major tourist hub in the Souss-Massa region." According to Abdelaziz Houays, the general director of the company that operates the cable car, this year’s visitor numbers have surpassed those of previous seasons. "We have observed a significant increase in attendance, starting much earlier than last year. We also see a rise in foreign visitors, with an estimated increase of 15 to 20%."
Houays explained that the summer season commenced slightly earlier this year, attracting a marked interest from both local and international visitors. "The guests are fully enjoying this experience and the ambiance of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella. The smiles and satisfaction on their faces are very encouraging for the season's success," he added. Following substantial rehabilitation efforts, the cable car now offers an exceptional view over the city, its coastline, and the commercial port, reaffirming Agadir's status as one of Morocco's most sought-after destinations.
