Reconstruction of CHR Hassan II: A New Era for Healthcare in Agadir
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, recently chaired a significant meeting in Agadir to discuss the reconstruction project of the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center. Established in 1961, the hospital has long been deemed inadequate for modern healthcare standards. This ambitious project is backed by a budget of approximately 1.1 billion Moroccan Dirhams and aims to construct a state-of-the-art hospital equipped with between 415 to 450 beds, incorporating advanced medical technologies and enhancing emergency and oncology services.
In preparation for the construction, the hospital will temporarily suspend operations at the end of March 2026. During this period, a robust plan will be in place to ensure the continuity of care for patients. Emergency services and inpatient care will be relocated to the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, while routine consultations will be conducted at a newly established "Day Clinic" on the existing hospital premises. Local health centers will continue to direct patients as needed, ensuring that the community's healthcare needs remain met during the transition.
Additionally, the project includes a comprehensive reorganization of human resources, ensuring that the rights of all hospital staff are preserved. This initiative is aimed at providing the Souss-Massa region with a modern healthcare facility that aligns with current standards, ultimately enhancing the quality of health services available to the population.
