AIDAluna Adjusts Its Canary Islands Cruise Due to Weather Conditions

AIDAluna's Route Changes Amidst Strong Winds

AIDAluna, one of the prominent cruise ships in the AIDA fleet, has been compelled to alter its ongoing voyage in the Canary Islands due to adverse weather conditions characterized by strong winds. Since last Sunday, the ship has been navigating through its penultimate cruise of the 2025/2026 winter season. The journey commenced from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, with the initial scheduled stops at Arrecife on Lanzarote and Agadir in Morocco being executed as planned. However, as the cruise progresses, necessary adjustments to the itinerary have arisen.

Following a day at sea returning from the Moroccan coast back towards the Canaries, AIDAluna docked at the port of Puerto del Rosario on Fuerteventura on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Due to the prevailing poor weather conditions, the original destination of Santa Cruz on the largest Canary Island, Tenerife, could not be accessed as intended. AIDAluna will remain in the alternate port of Fuerteventura for an unscheduled overnight stay, resuming its journey on Friday evening. During this time, the ship will have the opportunity to meet with its larger and newer fleetmate, AIDAcosma.

Additionally, the guests onboard were informed that the planned stop in San Sebastian on La Gomera for Saturday has been canceled. Instead, AIDAluna will revisit Santa Cruz on Tenerife at a later date. This modification means that the originally planned visit to La Gomera will no longer take place. Following its stop in Tenerife, AIDAluna will return to Gran Canaria, where this particular voyage will conclude on the upcoming Sunday. The safety of all passengers and crew members is always the utmost priority when making decisions regarding weather-related route changes.

Upcoming Itinerary Adjustments and Future Cruises

The AIDA cruise season for the Canary Islands is approaching its conclusion in the coming weeks, with AIDAluna scheduled to depart for a Western Europe cruise to Hamburg at the end of March. Shortly thereafter, AIDAcosma will also set sail for the western Mediterranean, arriving in time for the Easter voyages. The last AIDA ship to operate in the Canaries will be AIDAbella, which will embark on the "Canaries & Madeira" route, departing and returning to Gran Canaria and Tenerife around Easter.

Original itinerary for AIDAluna from March 15 to March 22, 2026: Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) – Arrecife (Lanzarote) – Agadir – Day at Sea – Santa Cruz (Tenerife) – Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) – San Sebastian (La Gomera) – Las Palmas (Gran Canaria).

Adjusted itinerary for AIDAluna: Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) – Arrecife (Lanzarote) – Agadir – Day at Sea – Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) – Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) – Santa Cruz (Tenerife) – Las Palmas (Gran Canaria).
