Algerian Defense Ministry's Weekly Operational Report
The Algerian Ministry of National Defense has released its weekly operational report detailing the activities of the People’s National Army. This report covers the period from August 26 to September 1, 2026, across the national territory. According to a statement issued by the ministry, the army units successfully intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle drugs across the border with Morocco, apprehending 42 drug traffickers and preventing the entry of over 213 kilograms of processed cannabis. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking in the region.
In addition to cannabis, the army also seized 2.16 kilograms of cocaine and 50,765 psychotropic pills during various military operations. Furthermore, in the fight against terrorism, the People’s National Army, in collaboration with customs authorities, managed to recover a heavy machine gun, seven Kalashnikov submachine guns, a quantity of ammunition, and other concealed items along the southern border. Several individuals suspected of supporting terrorist groups were also detained during these operations.
Moreover, the army apprehended 353 individuals and confiscated 28 vehicles, 302 electric generators, and 180 jackhammers. These operations, which occurred in regions such as Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and In Salah, also resulted in the seizure of raw gold and stones, alongside equipment used for illegal gold mining activities.
In other operations, additional individuals were detained, and two rifles and hunting guns were confiscated, along with 8,129 liters of fuel and 32 quintals of tobacco. The coast guards played a significant role in thwarting illegal migration attempts along the national coast, rescuing 210 individuals from makeshift boats and apprehending 383 illegal immigrants of various nationalities throughout the territory.
