Alternative Sentencing Implemented for Drug-Related Offenses in Fes
In a significant ruling by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance in Fes, a decision was reached on Tuesday regarding two individuals facing charges related to drug possession and trafficking, as well as facilitating drug use for others. The court imposed a prison sentence of four months on Hassan Al-Mujahid, along with a monetary fine of 2000 dirhams for his involvement in drug possession and trafficking. Similarly, Ayoub Aroussi received a three-month prison sentence and a 2000 dirham fine, in addition to the forfeiture of two mobile phones and the confiscation of cash seized during the operation, which will be directed to the public treasury.
Notably, the court opted to replace the custodial sentence imposed on Ayoub Aroussi with an alternative penalty involving community service. This decision highlights the court's approach to address drug-related offenses by allowing offenders to contribute positively to society while under the supervision of the legal system. Aroussi was duly informed about the obligations arising from this alternative sentence, including the consequences of any breach which would result in the execution of the original prison sentence.
