Amr Moussa: The Importance of Human Dignity Amidst Occupation and Oppression

Amr Moussa's Call for Unwavering Commitment to Human Dignity

During the recent Human Dignity Summit held in Fes, Morocco, on June 13-14, 2026, Amr Moussa, the former Secretary-General of the Arab League and Egypt's former Foreign Minister, emphasized the critical nature of human dignity in the context of ongoing occupation and oppression. He argued that discussions surrounding human dignity remain incomplete unless they encompass the plight of peoples suffering from occupation and violations of their fundamental rights, asserting that the dignity of the Palestinian people is an integral part of universal human dignity.

Moussa articulated that human dignity is a singular global value that transcends cultural and national boundaries, reinforcing that it is an inherent right for all individuals, irrespective of their race, religion, or geographical location. He underscored the necessity of safeguarding this dignity without any form of discrimination or selectivity.

A Call for Justice and Equality

Furthermore, he pointed out that the ongoing violence, destruction, and land confiscation faced by the Palestinian people represent a blatant violation of international law and human rights principles. Moussa asserted that the preservation of human dignity is contingent upon defending the rights of peoples to live in freedom, security, peace, and dignity. He insisted that the fight for human dignity should not be subjected to double standards or selective political considerations, highlighting that human values are universal and indivisible. The credibility of the international system, he concluded, is measured by its ability to uphold human dignity everywhere without exception and to adhere strictly to international law.

The Fes Summit on Human Dignity, convened by Dr. Hakima Hayti, was themed "Unlocking the Driving Force of Human Dignity" and featured a distinguished assembly of former heads of state, diplomats, and decision-makers from around the globe. The summit aimed to discuss ways to enhance peace, coexistence, and dialogue among civilizations.
