On the afternoon of September 10, 2026, police forces in Bremen arrested a 20-year-old individual in the historic Altstadt area following an alleged theft involving a wallet. The suspect, originally from Morocco, was apprehended by a witness who detained him until the police arrived at the scene.
At around 2:30 PM, officers were summoned to Herdentor street, where a 56-year-old witness was still holding the 20-year-old. The suspect exhibited aggressive behavior, shouting loudly as the police placed him in handcuffs and took him to the station. Initial witness accounts suggest that the suspect, alongside an accomplice, had stolen a wallet from a 43-year-old man while aboard a tram. The witness noticed the theft and alerted the victim, leading them to follow the two suspects when the tram stopped. The 56-year-old managed to detain the 20-year-old, who reportedly handed the stolen wallet to the second suspect, who then fled the scene. Additional witnesses reported seeing the accomplice board a bus heading towards the main train station. A judicial review concerning the risk of reoffending is currently underway.
The suspect was described as approximately 20 years old, standing about 175 cm tall, with black hair and a slender build. He was dressed in a black top and black pants, topped off with a black cap. Eyewitnesses reported that he conversed in Arabic with the second suspect.
