Significant Drug Trafficking Arrest in Rabat
In a major operation led by Rabat's judicial police anti-gang unit, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a police officer and his sister were apprehended on September 27, 2023. This arrest occurred on the motorway connecting Tangier to Rabat, where the officer was found in possession of a substantial quantity of illegal substances.
During a routine inspection, authorities discovered 5,150 controlled pharmaceutical tablets and 45 grams of cocaine inside the vehicle driven by the officer. Furthermore, an undisclosed amount of Moroccan currency was also seized. The situation escalated when law enforcement proceeded to arrest his sister in Ain Aouda, a suburb of Rabat, suspecting her involvement in the distribution of the confiscated drugs.
Both individuals have since been placed in police custody as investigators, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this case and seek to identify additional accomplices. In response to the serious nature of these allegations, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has temporarily suspended the officer from duty, pending the results of the ongoing judicial proceedings. This incident highlights the persistent struggle against drug trafficking in Morocco and the need for stringent measures to combat such criminal activities.
