Significant Food Seizures in Fes by Royal Gendarmerie
The Royal Gendarmerie services of the Ifrane Brigade have successfully confiscated a substantial quantity of food products that were found to be untraceable and lacking compliance with health safety standards. These items were stored in three clandestine warehouses located within the city of Fes. This operation was initiated following a routine inspection carried out by the gendarmerie's personnel, which led to the interception of a cargo truck carrying a large amount of foodstuffs. Upon inspection, it was revealed that the truck lacked any documentation to verify the origin of the goods, as well as the necessary health conditions for storage and transportation.
Consequently, the driver of the truck was immediately detained, and the competent public prosecutor's office was contacted, ordering an investigation into the matter. During the preliminary investigation, he stated that he was transporting these products from one of the warehouses in Fes. Following the public prosecutor's instructions, the Royal Gendarmerie officers proceeded to the specified city, where they identified the main warehouse. The security investigations subsequently led to the discovery of two additional warehouses containing similar products.
Health Risks and Ongoing Investigations
The raid, conducted in coordination with local authorities in Fes, resulted in the sealing of the first warehouse, which contained tons of various food items that were found to be stored under deplorable conditions, characterized by moisture and dust. Furthermore, many of these items lacked the necessary documentation and invoices. Continuing the field investigations, security personnel were able to pinpoint two more storage facilities located in the heart of Fes; after obtaining a search warrant, they stormed these locations and cataloged the goods within, leading to their closure for judicial inquiries.
According to informed sources, the seized products include a wide array of consumer goods, amounting to significant quantities, with most being of unknown origin and lacking any information regarding production dates and expiration. A portion of the items also did not meet the health safety standards required for storage. The sources further emphasized that the storage methods employed did not adhere to any recognized health standards, as the items were kept in conditions devoid of ventilation and cleanliness, posing an immediate threat to the health and safety of consumers should they be marketed.
Under the directives of the competent public prosecutor's office, investigations are still ongoing, aimed at uncovering any additional potential accomplices involved in this case and identifying the parties that were intended to distribute the seized products.
