Ayoub Bouaddi Shines in Morocco's World Cup Opener Against Brazil

Exceptional Performance by Moroccan Talent Ayoub Bouaddi

The young Moroccan prodigy, Ayoub Bouaddi, delivered an impressive performance as a midfielder during Morocco's first match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, where they faced Brazil. The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, and Bouaddi, who plays for Lille OSC in France, received widespread acclaim for his contribution. Alongside teammates Azzedine Ounahi and Nail El Aynaoui, Bouaddi effectively controlled the tempo of the game in the midfield, showcasing the Atlas Lions in a manner that positions Morocco as one of the teams expected to advance far in the current World Cup. This follows their historic achievement in the 2022 Qatar edition, where they reached the semi-finals, led by star player Achraf Hakimi.

Former Egyptian international and beIN Sports analyst, Mohamed Aboutrika, praised the remarkable performance of the Moroccan team against Brazil. He specifically highlighted Bouaddi's exceptional display, stating, "Ayoub, in particular, was outstanding; he didn't make a single incorrect pass and was available for all his teammates on the pitch." Reports from major outlets such as Reuters, The Guardian, and The Mirror indicate that Bouaddi's performance was pivotal in the match against Brazil.

Rising Star in European Football

Bouaddi is emerging as one of the most promising talents in French football, having established himself as a key player for Lille in recent seasons. He has played over 90 matches with the club across various competitions over the past three seasons. Last season, he participated in 30 matches for Lille, helping the team qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Notably, Bouaddi holds the record as the youngest player to participate in a continental club match at just 16 years and three days old.

Given that a player's performance on the pitch influences their market value, expectations are high that Bouaddi's value could rise to between €60-70 million (approximately $69.4-$81 million) following the World Cup, provided he continues to deliver stellar performances in subsequent matches. This anticipation is bolstered by his young age and his contract with Lille, which runs until 2029. Consequently, several top European clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, have placed Bouaddi on their radar.

Lille is not in a hurry to sell their prized gem and is demanding fees that surpass his current market value. Reports suggest that transfer fees could be no less than €70 million (around $81 million) at present, potentially reaching £70 million ($94 million), as noted by The Guardian. However, this valuation is contingent upon Bouaddi proving himself during the tournament with the Moroccan national team in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Current data from Transfermarkt as of June indicates that many Arab and African stars have not reached a market value of €50 million by the age of 18, which sets Bouaddi apart. The International Centre for Sports Studies' Football Observatory has assessed Bouaddi's transfer market value at €55 million (approximately $63.7 million) in a report released just before the World Cup. Previously, in a report published in December 2025, they projected his value to reach €58.8 million (around $68 million).

The observatory ranks Bouaddi among the highest-valued players in the Moroccan national team and includes him on its list of rapidly rising talents. It is worth noting the discrepancies between Transfermarkt's evaluations and those of the Football Observatory. While Transfermarkt assesses a player's current market value based on technical criteria related to their present readiness and pivotal role in the team, the Football Observatory evaluates expected value based on financial metrics tied to potential return on investment if the player is sold before the end of their contract. The observatory emphasizes young talents, taking into account factors such as age, the duration of their current contract, and whether the player represents a long-term investment for their club, as well as the level of interest from clubs wishing to acquire their services.
