LONDON: On Thursday, Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al-Nuaimi, the Minister of Defense for Bahrain, made a significant visit to meet with individuals injured during recent Iranian missile and drone strikes on the nation. Accompanied by Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, the Health Minister, Al-Nuaimi took the time to assess the victims' conditions and ensure they were receiving appropriate medical treatment, as reported by the Bahrain News Agency.
Since the end of February, Bahrain’s air defense systems have successfully intercepted and destroyed a staggering 154 Iranian ballistic missiles and 350 drones that have targeted the country. This impressive defensive response highlights the ongoing threats Bahrain faces from Iranian aggression. Furthermore, data from Asharq Aawsat indicates that approximately 83 percent of these Iranian strikes have been directed at Jordan and states within the Gulf Cooperation Council, leaving only 17 percent aimed at Israel.
Tragically, one of the recent attacks resulted in the death of a Moroccan civilian contractor who was engaged with the UAE armed forces, following an Iranian missile strike on Bahrain this past Tuesday. In light of these events, Bahrain has refrained from participating in any US-led military operations against Tehran. The kingdom has publicly condemned Iran's actions, emphasizing that the targeting of civilian areas and private property with ballistic missiles and drones represents a serious breach of international humanitarian law and poses a direct threat to the peace and security of the region.
In a related note, Jordan has also condemned the Iranian attack that led to the death of the Moroccan contractor, underscoring the regional implications of such aggressive actions. Additionally, Bahrain is taking steps to enhance its economic ties, recently opening a new shipping route that connects directly to the kingdom.
