Bangladesh and Morocco Join Forces for Business Development
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing economic ties, Bangladesh and Morocco have officially launched their first business-to-business (B2B) meeting platform in Rabat. This innovative platform is designed to create a dynamic corridor for trade, investment, and green innovation, effectively linking South Asia with Morocco's strategic access points to Africa, Europe, and beyond. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Shama Obaed, inaugurated the platform on Wednesday, as confirmed by a statement from the foreign ministry.
The establishment of this B2B platform is anticipated to facilitate a visit from a high-level Moroccan business delegation to Bangladesh in November. This delegation will explore various economic zones, industrial hubs, and innovation centers within the country, thereby laying the groundwork for potential investment partnerships and joint ventures between the two nations.
In her inaugural address, Minister Shama Obaed emphasized that this platform aims to foster high-value, innovation-driven, and people-centered partnerships. She stated, "We are not seeking mere trade for trade's sake; we want to cultivate trade that builds industries, creates jobs, accelerates technology transfer, and drives sustainable growth for both Bangladesh and Morocco." Additionally, she extended an invitation from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Moroccan businesses, encouraging them to consider Bangladesh as a prime investment destination.
One of the platform's key priorities is the promotion of Bangladesh's jute and jute-based products. Shama Obaed highlighted that as African nations increasingly move towards restricting the use of single-use plastics, there is a growing demand for biodegradable alternatives made from jute. This trend positions Bangladesh to become a significant supplier of such products, thereby enhancing its trade relationships with Morocco and other African countries.
Later in the day, the state minister further engaged with the Moroccan audience by delivering a lecture titled "Bangladesh Foreign Policy: Focus on Africa" at the Moroccan Institute for Trade and Development, showcasing Bangladesh's strategic vision and commitment to strengthening its ties with the African continent.
