On the morning of Sunday, May 31, law enforcement officials from the judicial police in the Ibn Jrir security district presented a case to the on-duty deputy of the public prosecutor at the Marrakech Court of Appeal regarding a young man involved in the horrific assault of a girl under the age of seven. Following extensive interrogation, the public prosecutor's office decided to prosecute the suspect while in custody, issuing a heavy indictment that includes serious charges such as: "kidnapping and detaining a minor, luring a girl under 12 years of age using deceit and violence, attempted rape of a minor under 18 years, sexual assault on a girl under 18 using violence resulting in deflowering, threats with a white weapon, possession of a white weapon without legal justification in circumstances that pose a threat to public safety, and drug consumption."
The accused has been placed in the "Oudaya" prison, awaiting the first session of his trial, scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, before the primary criminal chamber at the Marrakech Court of Appeal.
The events of this case unfolded on the afternoon of Friday, when the young girl, Israa, who will turn seven this September, was sent by her mother to a traditional bakery in the nearby "Al-Majd 3" neighborhood. However, she was intercepted by a young man from the same neighborhood who initially attempted to lure her without using force. Yet, her determination to continue towards her family's home in the "Africa" neighborhood prompted him to kidnap her, silencing her screams and forcibly leading her to the entrance of a nearby house, which is often left open, where he brutally assaulted her.
Such incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced child protection measures. The community is in shock, as this crime resonates deeply, prompting calls for justice to take its course. Many voices are expressing their outrage, wishing for swift and severe punishment for the perpetrator, asserting that there is no justification for such actions, and praying for the recovery and safety of the young victim. It is vital that society remains vigilant in protecting its children from the horrors of such crimes.
