As the clock ticks down to an anticipated friendly match between Burkina Faso and Argentina, the African football delegation finds itself stranded in Morocco due to an unexpected charter flight cancellation. Originally scheduled to arrive in Argentina more than 24 hours before the match at the Estadio Monumental, the team is currently stuck in Casablanca, grappling with logistical challenges that threaten the very existence of the match.

The Football Federation of Burkina Faso (FBF) released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding this travel debacle. "The national team's journey was disrupted after the charter airline unexpectedly canceled the flight that was supposed to take off on September 30th. This cancellation forced us to reorganize the team's itinerary," the FBF explained in their announcement.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding their travel, the situation has drawn the attention of the Ministry of Sports, the embassy in Morocco, and various federation officials who are working tirelessly to facilitate the team’s departure. Nevertheless, internal negotiations with the players have faced notable difficulties. The FBF reported that while several alternatives for a new departure have been explored, concerns over the extended travel duration have caused hesitation among the athletes.

Leading the emergency efforts are Annick Pikbougoum Zingué Ouattara, the Minister of Sports; Oumarou Sawadogo, the president of the FBF; and Mamadou Coulibaly, the ambassador in Morocco. Despite these concerted efforts, the logistical struggles paired with a three-hour time difference from Morocco to Argentina are jeopardizing the feasibility of the planned international match at River Plate’s stadium.
