Promoting Civic Responsibility Through Cleanliness
In a commendable effort to enhance urban cleanliness and foster civic responsibility, the Local Development Company Casablanca Baïa has unveiled its annual awareness campaign titled 'Ramadan Nadif 2026'. This initiative, launched in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan, aims to ensure a uniform level of cleanliness across all neighborhoods while promoting eco-citizen behaviors among the residents of Casablanca.
Soukaina Faris, the communication service manager at Casablanca Baïa, has highlighted that this year's operational framework has been significantly bolstered to cater to the unique needs of the holy month. The local teams are intensifying both manual and mechanical cleaning efforts in sensitive areas, adjusting waste collection schedules to ensure that trucks begin their rounds at 8 PM rather than the usual 9 PM. Additionally, extra teams are being deployed before and after Iftar, as well as following Taraweeh prayers, to maintain cleanliness in high-traffic areas such as mosques and markets.
Beyond the operational measures, 'Ramadan Nadif 2026' emphasizes the importance of citizen awareness. Social animators and communication teams are actively engaging with the public on the ground while utilizing digital platforms to remind citizens of the best practices for waste disposal, including adhering to designated garbage collection times and properly disposing of waste in assigned areas. Through this campaign, the Commune of Casablanca is calling for collective civic engagement from residents, merchants, and economic stakeholders, underscoring that the responsibility of maintaining public spaces falls on everyone. This initiative aligns with the broader 'Casa Nqiya' movement, which seeks to transform Casablanca into a cleaner, more attractive, and sustainable city where every citizen plays their part in preserving the environment.
Concrete data and examples are available to illustrate the impact and progress of this initiative over the years, showcasing how communal involvement can lead to significant improvements in urban cleanliness.
