Medical Malpractice Leads to Arrest in Casablanca

A shocking case of medical malpractice and extortion has emerged in Casablanca, where a doctor working at a local hospital has been apprehended for attempting to exploit a patient in dire need of medical attention. The incident unfolded when the physician allegedly attempted to sell a necessary medical injection to a patient at an exorbitant price, taking advantage of the individual’s vulnerable state. The situation escalated when the victim reported the incident to the authorities via a dedicated hotline, prompting an undercover operation by law enforcement.

According to reports, the victim, suffering from severe burns for the past two years, visited the hospital seeking relief through an essential injection. Upon arrival, the doctor informed him that the medication was out of stock due to supply chain interruptions. In a suspicious turn of events, the physician offered to sell the patient a promotional box of the medication, claiming it was obtained for free, but demanded an outrageous fee of 300 dirhams—far exceeding the official market price of 65 dirhams. When the patient refused, the doctor raised the price to 400 dirhams, further demonstrating an exploitative attitude towards the patient’s health crisis.

Recognizing this as blatant extortion, the patient pretended to agree to the terms before swiftly leaving the hospital to notify the authorities. The judicial system responded promptly, leading to a coordinated effort by the police to set a trap for the suspect. During a pre-arranged meeting, the physician was caught red-handed accepting the illicit payment, resulting in his immediate arrest.

Initially, the doctor denied the allegations during questioning; however, he was confronted with the patient’s detailed account of the events. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been unlawfully selling pharmaceutical products that were intended for free distribution within public healthcare facilities. This serious breach of ethics ultimately led to his referral to the public prosecutor for further legal action.
