Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), recently announced that the final match of the 2030 World Cup will take place at the Hassan II Stadium in the province of Benslimane. However, the FIFA has responded by clarifying that no official decision has been made regarding the final's location. This declaration was made during a political meeting in Bouznika, where Lekjaa stated, as reported by various sources, that the province would be honored to host the prestigious event. He emphasized that anyone aspiring to be part of the next government must prioritize the development of Benslimane.
The timing of Lekjaa’s announcement is significant, coinciding with Morocco's legislative elections scheduled for September 23. Furthermore, it is worth noting that Lekjaa also holds the position of Minister Delegate in charge of Budget, which adds a layer of political importance to his statement.
In response to Lekjaa's claims, FIFA reiterated, through RMC Sport, that the final venue will be determined at the appropriate time, highlighting that the list of host cities remains incomplete. It is understood that both Spain and Morocco are vying for the opportunity to host the final match, yet the Spanish Football Federation has not publicly commented on Lekjaa’s assertions.
The 2030 World Cup, which is set to be co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, will occur from June 8 to July 21, 2030. Interestingly, the opening matches are scheduled to take place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The Hassan II Stadium, currently under construction approximately 60 kilometers east of Casablanca, is expected to accommodate 115,000 spectators, with an estimated cost nearing half a billion euros, according to reports.
